March 27 - San Diego County Environmental Progress
Sunday March 27, 2022
3:30PM Social time and check-in
4:00OM Meeting on Zoom
Club meetings will remain on Zoom for the foreseeable future.
After having spent the first two months of this year discussing two of the important San Diego City Council races we switch our focus this month to the most important issue of our time — the climate.
San Diego County Environmental Progress
In November 2020, after decades of Republican control, Democrats were able to win a 3-2 majority on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
In the first year of their majority, Chair Fletcher, Vice Chair Vargas, and Supervisor Lawson-Remer have passed a wide variety of environmental legislation, which has put San Diego County in the forefront of climate action nationwide.
On March 27th, we will be joined by Supervisor Lawson-Remer’s Senior Advisor for Land Use, Education, and Environment, Dr. Cody Petterson, who will give us an overview of the Board’s year one environmental achievements and a forecast of what we can expect in the coming year.
A long-time member of our club, Dr. Cody Petterson is Senior Advisor to Supervisor Lawson-Remer. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, San Diego, where he currently lectures. Dr. Petterson is currently raising two children in his hometown of La Jolla, California. His work is dedicated to protecting and stewarding our natural world, educating our youth, and reducing inequality.
