This month our guest speaker is Art Castañares. He will be joining us to discuss the latest impact mailers had on local elections and the rules surrounding their use. He has been the publisher of La Prensa San Diego since 2015. Winner of the Ruben Salazar Award for Excellence in Journalism. Mr. Castañares has more than 30 years of governmental and business experience. Prior to becoming a journalist, Castañares served for 13 years as staff for the California State Legislature, and also provided political and marketing consulting to clients throughout California.

Proposed Bylaw Change

The club considered a proposed change to the club Bylaws at our September club meeting. The bylaw that was considered to be changed is below. The proposed change to the bylaw did not pass.

Seeking San Diego Democratic Party Central Committee Candidates

Would you be interested in running for the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee? Central Committee leaders vote on the candidate and ballot measure endorsements of the Democratic Party, and by having more of your grassroots organizing team elected to the central committee, your community will have greater representation in the party. 

Members of our countywide Democratic Central Committee, the governing body of the San Diego County Democratic Party will be elected in the March presidential primary public ballot elections.  

The nomination period, when you can file to run with the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, begins on November 13th and ends on December 8th. So, if you are considering running for Central Committee, please start planning now.   Now is also the time to recruit your allies and politically active, progressive neighbors, to run for these important positions. Please reach out to Cynara Velazquez for more details.
