No May Meeting, Volunteer for Paloma Aguirre's campaign, Testing Sexual Assault Evidence Kits, No Kings, Paul Mendoza
Reminder: there is no meeting in May in deference to Memorial Day weekend.

There will be no meeting this month in deference to Memorial Day weekend, which coincides with our usual meeting schedule. Regular monthly meetings will resume Sunday, June 22 at 4:00PM. Instead we encourage club members to get involved in these actions:
First Supervisorial District, Special General Election, July 1

The District 1 County Supervisor's Special General Election on July 1, 2025 is a high-stakes runoff battle between the endorsed Democratic candidate, Paloma Aguirre, Mayor of Imperial Beach and the Republican candidate, John McCann, Mayor of Chula Vista. Aguirre's campaign needs the attention of every county Democrat, whether residing in the district or not, willing to provide whatever level of support they can to prevent the Board of Supervisors from slipping back into Republican control.
Aguirre's needs, and action days for walking, phoning, etc. can be found at her campaign web site, Paloma Aguirre for County Supervisor. Please, if you can, and have some time to spare, go here and see what you could reasonably do to help out if only for a couple of hours. Every little bit helps. Given the tightness of some of today's recent elections, the support of a single individual or a few can be crucial to the outcome of an election.
May 14 — Testing Sexual Assault Evidence Kits
Following club member Lori Saldaña’s presentation (PDF) to members of the San Diego City Council last month on untested Sexual Assault Evidence Kits (SAEKS), Marni von Wilpert, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, requested an update from the San Diego Police Department. If you can attend but don’t wish to speak you can cede time to Lori, and other club members who are planning to be in attendance.

June 22 — Monthly Meeting — Paul Mendoza discusses AI

For our June 22 meeting program, join us for an insightful and entertaining talk by Paul Mendoza, President of the San Marcos Democratic Club and a San Diego Democratic Party Central Committee member.
With nearly two decades as a San Marcos resident and experience running a software company in the AI space, Paul brings a unique perspective to one of the most pressing issues of our time. In this talk, Paul will explore the rise of artificial intelligence—how we got here, what AI is capable of today, and what its rapid advancement means for our near future. He'll dive into the far-reaching implications AI has for transport, labor, and inflation, and most importantly, how we as Democrats can shape policy and action to ensure these technological shifts lead to a more just and equitable society.Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a local leader at the intersection of technology and progressive politics.Btw, this was written with AI and submitted by Paul.

5 Calls — Turn Your Passion into Action
5 Calls is the easiest and most effective way for U.S. constituents to make a political impact.
Choose an issue you care about.
Make calls in support of progressive issues. We update the list regularly as legislation develops and remove topics as soon as they're no longer relevant.
If you don’t see your issue on the list, please reach out.
Enter your location.
Next, we'll figure out who you need to call. We can find your location for you, or you can enter a ZIP code or address manually. If your ZIP code is in more than one Congressional district we may show our best guess for your representative. Use an address or cross streets to more accurately locate you.
Your location stays private. We don't store it and we never sell data to third parties.
Make your calls.
We’ll provide you with a script and tell you who to call for your chosen issue, from Representatives and Senators to Governors and Attorneys General. Once you mark the result of your call, we’ll show you the next person’s number.
