Immigration
In a recent speech to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly the current U.S. president had this to say about immigration — “It’s destroying your country and you have to do something about it.”
So what are we doing and how are we going about that? In our modern interconnected world — with climate change driving war and migration, and with an aging, declining domestic population — should we be erecting still more barriers to migration?
Or should we be working to create a more humane future – that allows us to reap the tremendous benefits that migration can offer?
Our previously announced speaker Cheri Attix had to withdraw owing to a family bereavement. Very graciously at such short notice, Maria Chavez, Immigration Legal Director at PANA (Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans) has stepped in to answer our questions around the state of immigration in San Diego. Just as Cheri had planned to do, Maria will facilitate a Q&A format with members driving the conversation.
Prop 50 — Learn more and volunteer
Republicans in Texas and other states are making a power grab to keep Trump in unchecked control for two more years. Californians must mobilize to pass Proposition 50, which would level the field by approving temporary new districts in our state. Passing this ballot measure in the November 4 special election is urgent for our democracy -- and we need all hands on deck! Learn more and sign up to help at sddems.link/prop50.
