Reminder: there is no club meeting in May in deference to Memorial Day weekend. Instead please consider supporting these events.

There will be no meeting this month in deference to Memorial Day weekend, which coincides with our usual meeting schedule. Regular monthly meetings will resume Sunday, June 22 at 4:00PM. Instead we encourage club members to get involved in these actions:

Throughout May — First Supervisorial District, Special General Election

Volunteer to help the Paloma Aguirre for County Supervisor campaign.

May 14 — Testing Sexual Assault Evidence Kits

Following club member Lori Saldaña’s presentation (PDF) to members of the San Diego City Council last month on untested Sexual Assault Evidence Kits (SAEKS), Marni von Wilpert, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, requested an update from the San Diego Police Department. They posted their response here (PDF).If you’re available to attend, or leave comment, the next meeting of the Public Safety Committee is on May 14, 2PM at the City Administration Building, 12th Floor, 202 C St, San Diego, CA 92101 — where this important item will be discussed. If you can attend but don’t wish to speak you can cede time to Lori, and other club members who are planning to be in attendance.

May 17 — Alliance San Diego: Fight for Schools

Saturday, May 17, 11AM – 1PM PDT — 3366 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92103

Alliance San Diego and We Are CA are joining the San Diego Education Association & the California Teachers Association in San Diego for a statewide action to stand up for students and defend public education!

The event will include a march and a short program of local educators and community leaders who are parents in area public schools.

May 17 — Take Action San Diego Monthly Meeting

Join us every month on Zoom (and occasionally in person), to learn more about how you can take action at the local, state and national level to support progressive change. With a new Trump administration, we have challenging work ahead of us, but coming together in community to be informed, to support one another and to act together is the first step.
