A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
Check out the June 14 "No Kings" webpage for more information on the schedule, the route, the organizers behind the event, what to bring, how to get there and more!
A note on the route: It's a flat, 1.25 mile loop that begins and ends at Waterfront Park. If you choose not to march, please make yourself at home at Waterfront Park, where there will be music and informational tables.
A note from Wendy of Take Action San Diego
Events in LA and elsewhere are disturbing at so many levels, and have raised questions about the safety of protests in general. Please know that we are doing everything we can to make this event not just unified and joyful, but also safe. Our peacekeeper volunteers (you'll notice them in their "fashionable" yellow vests and their walkie-talkies) have been trained in de-escalation techniques. We have had a positive interaction with law enforcement in the weeks leading up to this event; they will be there to manage traffic, close the streets, and to keep the peace. Please don't hesitate to contact any of our volunteers if there is anything you are concerned about.
All of that said, we are not seeing reasons for concern on Saturday. What we are seeing is an outpouring of solidarity, commitment and love from our community. From the owner of Marigold Bagels, who will be giving away free bagels to marchers, to the people who who convinced first-time protesters to join in, to the countless sign making partiers, whose creativity we're going to get to enjoy on Saturday -- I could go on and on. With people like you in the world, how can we not succeed?
See you Saturday!
Wendy
