July 27 — Monthly meeting — Candidate Forum for Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party
Monthly meeting at the Pt Loma Assembly, 4PM with candidates Sara Ochoa and William Rodriguez-Kennedy.
July 27 Monthly Meeting — Candidate Forum for Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party
For our July 27 meeting program, join us for a candidates forum for the newly announced vacancy for Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party.
Kyle Krahel-Frolander, in announcing his candidacy for County Supervisor District 5 in 2026, resigned his position as Chair.
The vacancy arises in an era of authoritarian rule, extreme political positions, violence against elected officials and as Rachel Locke recently explained to KPBS, electeds “also fear their colleagues, whether that’s colleagues on a school board or a city council or in a school administration or within the party they may be seeking support from — individuals within the Democratic Party, within the Republican Party, those who should be supporting them.”
Given that our clubmembers cannot vote for the Chair we asked Lori Saldaña, Assembly speaker Pro Tempore emerita (and clubmember) why it was important to hear from the candidates directly?
The endorsements, campaign financial decisions, volunteer activities, and countless other actions taken by the county Democratic Party impact millions of people every day- not just in San Diego county, but throughout California & the country.
It’s essential we elect a chair who will direct all these activities with integrity and respect for everyone involved. The Chair will represent us as a region, and must be well respected by the community at large, as well as Party members.
And in this era of extreme political polarization and conflict:
We need a Chair who understands how to resolve conflicts effectively, collegially, and without harming others and/or generating undue media attention.
I look forward to discussing all these issues at the upcoming meeting, and think our time will be well spent given the broad, long term impact of this election.
If you are a clubmember and have questions for the candidates please feel free to email them ahead of the meeting to info@pointlomadem.org and we will also take written questions from clubmembers at the meeting, that will be handed to the moderator and may be combined with questions from other clubmembers, at the discretion of the moderator.

Paloma Aguirre won the election for County Supervisor District 1
Thanks to all of you who donated time, money and your passion to help Paloma get elected and ensure a majority of our supervisors are Democrats, and women!
As Paloma said, “We need bold action to protect against Trump’s Medicaid cuts, clean up the polluted sewage poisoning our communities and finally get serious about putting county funding where it belongs: in our communities to help working families who are struggling.”
We expect her to be sworn in this week.
